Short-Range Binoculars

Bushnell offers a selection of reliable and affordable short-range binoculars as well as top-rated binoculars used by the most experienced of hunters. Short-range binoculars offer limitations with magnification levels, but make up for that with superior portability.

Short-range binos are slightly less versatile than medium or long-range binoculars and are used for more specific purposes and with less frequency.

Short-range binoculars often have a range of distance that allows visibility at anywhere from 2.5x to 8x magnification. As the magnification is less, the field of vision will increase.

However, when it comes to short-range binoculars, close-focus distance is also important. This distance means that a pair of binoculars can keep focused up to a minimum distance. You can’t simply look through binoculars, trying to see 3 feet in front of you and expect clarity.

The lower the magnification number, the better you can see in front. Typically, this number will increase (which means worsen) as you increase the magnification and the objective lens.

For short-range hunting or close-range observation out in nature, many users will opt for optics that keep a shorter range of visibility in their binoculars. In particular, close-range binoculars are most commonly used for viewing smaller insects, like butterflies or for close-ups of flowers.

They might also be used for detail-oriented observation like animal tracking. Close-focus binoculars allow a close up of details more like a magnifying glass, but larger. If an animal, insect or object were to move closer than the close-focus range, the visual will become significantly more blurred as it gets closer to the lens. If a hunter is eyeing the ground trying to identify a footprint, a close-focus binocular can help.
